The Hidden Paradise of Goa

We discovered this place a few years back and we named it The Secret Beach. Yes it was one untill a couple of years. Now too many people know about this place and you see them picknicking there on weekends. Well that apart this is the most beautiful beach side in Goa.

Interiors of Goa.

Goa is a small state and what I just realised is that a small 20 kms drive would take you into wild. This is something we never thought of. We are so lucky to have beach and then drive off a small distance and bingo you get wilderness. I am blessed to be born in Goa.

River Side Landscape of Goa.

Goa is famous for its beaches. A lot of tourists visiting Goa miss out on the riverside beauty of Goa. I was driving around interiors of Goa with 2 friends who are travelling across India and we came to this place. My dad used to live in this part of Goa and as a kid I would cross this river as a short cut and some fun while going to school. Got to re-live this old memories.

Our very own Narkasur...Happy Diwali

Yes this was made by our group of friends. And he was my buddy for that evening - Now that he is gone and burnt on the eve of Diwali - I wish all the bloggers a Happy Diwali ( although a belated) . My wishes to all of you that goodness prevails over all the evils around us. Enjoy your life. Be good. :)

Diwali in Goa

The Narkasurs of Goa
Goa is the only place in India where the custom of making and burning the effigies of narkasurs take place on the eve of Diwali. Diwali is basically the celebration of the victory of lord krishna over the demon narkasur. On the eve of the diwali these narkasur effigies in various shapes and sizes are prepared and then paraded - some for fun, some for money and some for competetion. Yes there are competetions organised in various towns of Goa and the Narkasurs are paraded in the town to compete - kind of competetion of the superior of the Evils. Our group of friends had our very own home made or home bred narkasur. watch for the pictures in the next post.

Made in Punjab and NO where else...

Check this out. This is funky. Yea totally funk. This is not mass produced vehicle. It is in the likes of Harley Davidson only to the extent of hand crafting. Rest all is indigenous. This public carrier is certainly made locally in Punjab. Punjab is a state of innovations. You give scrap to the people and they certainly will apply grey areas of the their existence and pull out a innovation which would help people.

Heavy Rains, Flooding and Heavy mixed emotions in GOA.

Its a mixed reaction entering Goa after 9 days of holidaying in North India. Since the 29th of Sept I have known that it has been raining heavily in Goa.I have seen 31 monsoons in Goa while I have been growing up. But a cloud burst of this extent is something completely new to Goa and me. I saw a few pictures on face book of Vicky Fernanes ( whose pictures I have posted below). This is a real sad time for the people of Canacona, Poiguinim and Mashem village. Since Parag is from Mashem I know most of the places below very well and I cannot apply my logical thinking to how and why should flooding happen to the places below. Those places are coastal areas and are very well flushed to the ocean.

I was lucky to have reached Goa without any problems. Other states of India like Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have been heavily hit. The sad part about the whole flooding is that the poor people are the ones who are really badly hit. The Government officials here in India will give loose talks on television - but nothing comes out of that. The poor loose their homes, bits of clothing, cattles, dogs, chickens and whole lot of emotions. Yes the emotions too get washed away. The feel of having lost everything is so strong that everything is swept away. Only time will heal and compensate those who have lost and will loose in the days to come untill the flooding recedes.

For me it will be another day. I am resuming work tomorrow morning. I will drive to my office and start my work. Yes the hangover of the holiday will keep me dazed. It will go on for 2 days. While I am dazed, a lot would be lost. I wish we learn to contribute to the nature - or else such furore will continue untill it is all destroyed. I guess it is too late to repair the damage. Damage will continueth......
